Click on any of the module titles below to find out more about them:
Measuring Static Pressure - External Coil Systems
In this module you’ll get a better understanding of the impact of high static pressure in an HVAC system with an external cooling coil. You’ll also learn the correct location in the system to measure static pressure in the entire system, or over specific components. Basic static pressure test instruments are also reviewed. Module includes downloadable NCI Total External Static Pressure Test Procedure and Pressure Drop Test Procedure.
Measuring Static Pressure - Internal Coil Systems
In this module you’ll learn more about the impact of high static pressure in an HVAC system with an internal cooling coil. You’ll also learn the correct location in the system to measure static pressure in the entire system, or over specific components. Basic static pressure test instruments are also reviewed. Module includes downloadable NCI Total External Static Pressure Test Procedure and Pressure Drop Test Procedure.
Fundamentals of Fan Airflow
In this module we look at the basics of airflow and fan function in an HVAC system. You’ll learn the three rules of airflow and the six steps of fan operation in a system. You’ll also learn to interpret equipment model numbers to determine size and capacity of HVAC equipment. Finally, we explain how to calculate required system cooling fan airflow, and how air changes at different altitudes.
Plotting Fan Airflow
In this module we introduce you to the five steps required to plot fan airflow in any HVAC system. You’ll learn to use fan performance tables, and how to determine the percent of required fan airflow that the system is delivering. You will also get some tips on how to discuss fan airflow issues with your customers. We recommend to complete the Fundamentals of Fan Airflow module prior to beginning this module.
Static Pressure Budgets - External Coil
By completing this module you become familiar with how to read and understand static pressure budgets for HVAC systems with external cooling coils. You’ll learn how to apply static pressure budgets to system measurements and diagnose typical static pressure defects using budgets. Basic solutions to system static pressure defects are reviewed. Module includes downloadable NCI Diagnostic and Repair Procedure.
Static Pressure Budgets - Internal Coil
This module helps you become familiar with how to read and understand static pressure budgets for HVAC systems with internal cooling coils. You’ll learn how to apply static pressure budgets to system measurements and diagnose typical static pressure defects using budgets. Basic solutions to system static pressure defects are reviewed. Module includes downloadable NCI Diagnostic and Repair Procedure.
Using Fan Law 1
Fan laws are an essential tool for adjusting system airflow in equipment with belt—drive motors. Anyone who services and repairs commercial HVAC equipment will want to explore this three module series explaining the fundamentals of Fan Law One, Two and Three. You’ll get a better understanding of how adjustable pulleys work and review fan law formulas and their application. Module 1 shows you how to apply Fan Law One to calculate change in pulley diameter to achieve required system airflow. You’ll also learn how it can be used to determine motor rpm required for the airflow you need.
Using Fan Law 2
In Module 2 you’ll learn how Fan Law Two lets you calculate what effect adjusting system airflow has on system static pressure.
Using Fan Law 3
And finally, Module 3 shows you how to “predict” what will happen to motor amp draw when you adjust to required system airflow. Each module explains the fan law in simple, easy to understand terms and provides practical exercises to help you learn to apply it.
Balancing Hood Basics
Air balancing hoods allow you to quickly and efficiently measure airflow out of a supply register or into a return grille. In this module you’ll review the basic functions of balancing hoods. You’ll become familiar with the proper positioning of the hood in various applications, and learn to accurately measure grille and register airflow.
Introduction to Carbon Monoxide Safety
From the earliest days humans have inhaled carbon monoxide and suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning. Although awareness of this dangerous gas dates back thousands of years, even today it remains a mystery to most people. What are the characteristics of carbon monoxide and the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning? At what levels does carbon monoxide become life threatening and what should you do if you encounter it? Find out the answers to these questions and many more in this introductory program.
